This business came highly recommended from my neighbors and they were spot on. Matthew was very pleasant to deal with and educated me on the hows and whys of what he did to mitigate radon from our basement. He took time to make sure I was happy with the placement of the mitigation system, explained how it worked and was thorough in maintaining cleanliness before, during and after the installation. If you need radon mitigated this is the company to go with!

  • Matt with SM Radon Mitigation and Testing was fantastic! He was on time, professional, did the install within budget and within the time estimate. Matt laid down drop clothes and left the space clean. Matt also went out of his way to recommend a Radon detector for my new house. Could note be happier! Thank You! Matt

He came, he saw, he conquered... Matt delivered a great mitigation solution for us by boring under a foundation slab from a sunken LR area, prior to being made level, which was then all connected to a very quiet fan located in an upstairs closet. It was a very elegant approach to a challenging layout (no basement or attic). He even added a passive system where it simply wasn't possible to reach from the main line. We went from a high reading to an "outside air" quality of .6. Could not be happier with the results or with Matt :).

Excellent installation working around our existing utility hookups. Clear communication about the system. Radon levels dropped from around 4 where they'd been hovering to a now consistent 0.37 which was never seen in two years of monitoring. Holding steady now close to what outside ambient levels are. Highly recommend going with SMRadon for your needs!

  • So..... Nobody wants to hear that they have a Radon Issue. However, working with Matt to fix the problem was the opposite of that. He was professional, knowledgeable and an all around great person to spend the day with. He helped me understand the system, the issues and what expect in the future. His work was top quality, even when critiqued by a retired pipe fitter. Having Radon issues were an unexpected expense, but something positive came out of it. I met a pretty great person. Thanks for fixing the issue SM Radon Mitigation and testing. I strongly recommend their service.

Had a great experience working with Matt. He did our initial radon test for a new home. The new home came in with radon just below the limit. He made sure to call me after sending over my results. He advised us to at least monitor the levels because they were close to epa limits. After we closed, I called Matt back out to mitigate. He was really easy to work with and educating us along the way so we were more knowledgeable about our new system. Will recommend this business to others!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is radon and why is it dangerous?
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that comes from the breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water. It’s invisible, odorless, and tasteless—making it impossible to detect without specialized testing. Long-term exposure to high levels of radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States.
How do I know if my home has radon?
The only way to know if your home has radon is to test for it. Even if your neighbor’s home tested low, yours could still have elevated levels. At SM Radon Pro, we offer professional radon testing using continuous monitors for accurate results.
What level of radon is considered unsafe?

The EPA recommends taking action if your radon levels are 4.0 picocuries per liter (pCi/L) or higher. However, even levels between 2.0 and 4.0 pCi/L can pose some risk, especially with long-term exposure.

How does radon mitigation work?

Radon mitigation typically involves installing a sub-slab depressurization system. This system draws radon gas from beneath your home’s foundation and vents it safely outside. We design every system to match your home’s layout and radon levels.

How long does it take to install a radon mitigation system?

Most radon mitigation systems can be installed in one day. We’ll walk you through the process, explain your options, and ensure your system is both effective and discreet.

Is the radon mitigation system noisy or visible?

Our systems are designed to be as quiet and unobtrusive as possible. The fan is usually installed in an attic or outside the home, and piping is routed discreetly. We prioritize function and aesthetics.

How much does radon mitigation cost?
Pricing depends on the size of your home, foundation type, and radon levels. Most systems range from $900 to $1,500. We offer free estimates and transparent pricing with no hidden fees.
Do I need to retest my home after mitigation?

Yes. We always perform a post-mitigation test to confirm your system is working and that radon levels are reduced below the EPA guideline. We also recommend re-testing every 2 years or if major home renovations occur.

Are you certified and insured?

Absolutely. SM Radon Pro is NRPP-certified, NRSB-certified, AARST-certified fully insured, and follows all EPA and state guidelines for radon testing and mitigation.

What areas do you serve?

We proudly serve homeowners, home buyers, and real estate professionals across West Michigan. We service Kalamazoo to Big Rapids, Holland to Lansing. Contact us to see if we serve your specific location.

Is radon testing required in Ada, MI?

Radon testing is not legally required, but it’s highly recommended due to elevated radon levels found in Kent County homes.

How long does a radon test take?

Most tests take 48 hours, and we provide results within one business day.
